Newspaper Projects  Microfilm  National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP)  Swedish Language Newspaper Projects  Southeastern Libraries Cooperating (SELCO)

NDNP Background  NDNP builds off the United States Newspaper Program (USNP) which funded microfilming and cataloging of historic newspapers throughout the United States.  The Minnesota Historical Society was the Minnesota representative in the USNP. Much of our newspaper collection was microfilmed and cataloged as part of the USNP. MHS participation in the USNP lasted from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s.  NDNP uses microfilmed newspapers as basis of digitization process and incorporates catalog record data into the NDNP metadata used for the Chronicling America website.  Time span of newspapers in Chronicling America will range from 1836 to 1922.

NDNP (National Digital Newspaper Program)  NDNP  Partnership between the National Endowment for the Humanities/NEH (grants) and the Library of Congress/LC (technical process and infrastructure).  The goal is to have all 50 states represented in the NDNP  Awardees are primarily from universities, state libraries, or historical societies within each state. Currently have 25 state awardees.  The Minnesota Historical Society (MHS) – 100,000 pages/grant  First grant: cycle.  Second grant: cycle.  Third grant: cycle – Grant submitted.  State Historical Society of North Dakota – Grant submitted (MHS working as subcontractor).
