James helps us see ourselves as we are. Faith or no faith? Hearers or doers?

We all need to examine ourselves. Beliefs. Attitudes. Actions.

Avoid partiality, 2:1 Negative command. The Faith of our Lord, Acts 6:7; 13:7-12

Partiality & the problem, 2:2-4 Specific behavior addressed. AAttendance. MModesty. LLanguage.

Partiality & the problem, 2:2-4 Favoritism. RRich over poor, poor over rich. WWhite over black, black over white. MMen over women, women over men. Problem: Judges.

Contradicts God and common sense, 2:5-7 God’s view, 2:5; 1 Cor. 1:26-29; Mt. 5:3 Common sense, 2:6, 7 RRich are ruthless. RRich are irreverent, Acts 11:26 EExceptions, Job 42:10; Mt. 27:57

Keep the royal law, 2:8; Mt. 7:12 Love the poor. Love the rich. Love all.
