General Information

4 All submissions are to be submitted ELECTRONICALLY For each award your organization applies for, a separate application must be submitted. The submission deadline is July 1, 11:59 pm CDT. Awards will be presented in October at WE16 in Philadelphia, PA at Celebrate SWE! Incomplete packages or those that exceed the requirements will be removed from consideration.

9 Go to section section Download awards packet Review all awards Choose awards for which your organization qualifies Follow all instructions Submit using the application tool by award deadline Application completed online by March 31 at 11:59 PM, Central Time. No exceptions will be made for late packages. NEW FOR 2016: Fill out the ‘Application’ online each award will have a unique link (see next slide) Process

13 How to Apply Reminders All packages are to be submitted electronically in a Microsoft Word or PDF format Incomplete nomination packages or nomination packages that do not meet the award requirements will be disqualified. Packages must be submitted online through the application tool.

19 Communication Section Awards These awards recognize Collegiate Sections (large, medium, and small) and Professional Sections/MAL Regions/International Affiliates (large, medium, and small) that have developed the best communications program to inform and develop its members and the general public. Forms of communications considered for this award include brochures, web pages, newsletters, blogs, podcasts, social media, CD’s, etc. Selection Criteria 40% Membership Involvement / Results of the Program 25% External Activities 25% Internal Activities 10% Alignment

21 Membership Section Awards Collegiate Transition These awards recognize Collegiate Sections (large, medium, and small) and Professional Sections/MAL Regions/International Affiliates (large, medium, and small) who have the best collegiate transition program and sponsored the largest number of paid collegiate transitions by June 30th of the current fiscal year. Selection Criteria Collegiate 50% Transition Program/Event 50% Transaction Score Professional Sections/MAL Regions/International Affiliates 80% Transition Program/Event 20% Number of Transitions

22 Membership Section Awards Collegiate to Career These awards recognize Collegiate Sections (large, medium, and small) that have developed programs to retain and grow membership. Selection Criteria 50% C2C Program/Event 50% C2C Score Only Collegiate Sections are eligible for this award.

23 Membership Section Awards Region Membership Award The Region Membership Award is given to Region(s) with the best Region Membership Growth & Retention program AND that strive toward the retention and growth percentage goals for the year (for Professional and Collegiate). Region Z (International) is eligible to submit for this award. Governors, Lieutenant Governors, or International Ambassadors are asked to submit for this award. Selection Criteria 20% Region Membership Program 80% Region Retention and Growth Scores Only Regions are eligible for this award.

24 Membership Section Awards Membership Retention Program Award This award recognizes successful membership retention programs in Collegiate Sections (large, medium, and small) and Professional Sections/MAL Regions/International Affiliates (large, medium, and small). Selection Criteria Collegiate 50% Retention Activities and Programs 35% Member Retention Score 15% Dropped Members Professional Sections/MAL Regions/International Affiliates 30% Retention Activities and Programs 35% Member Retention Score 10% Sustained Members 15% Dropped Members 10% Corporate Members

25 Membership Section Awards Membership Recruitment Program Award This award recognizes successful membership recruitment programs in Collegiate Sections (large, medium, and small) and Professional Sections/MAL Regions/International Affiliates (large, medium, and small). Selection Criteria Collegiate 40% Recruitment Activities and Programs 35% Member Recruitment Score 10% Joint Activities 15% New Member Involvement Professional Sections/MAL Regions/International Affiliates 30% Recruitment Activities and Programs 35% Member Recruitment Score 10% New Member Involvement 15% Joint Activities 10% Corporate Involvement

26 Multicultural Section Awards – Motorola Foundation Multicultural Award These awards recognize Professional Sections, MAL regions, and International Affiliates that have developed and implemented the best multicultural program that does one or more of the following: –Increases or retains a diverse SWE membership –Increases the exposure of engineering and the SWE organization to a diverse professional audience –Increases the exposure of engineering and the SWE organization to the community through K-12 outreach programs. A focus on diversity is defined as inclusion of individuals who add variety to the demographics of the target audience or Section/MAL Region/International membership from its original makeup. Examples of demographic diversification include the increase and retention of: –Individuals of color and various nationalities –Individuals of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender orientation (GLBT) –Individuals of various age ranges –Individuals with disabilities Selection Criteria 50% Diversity of Membership 25% Publicity of Diverse Programming 25% Community Outreach and Visibility Only Professional Sections/MAL Regions/International Affiliates are eligible for this award.

27 Multicultural Section Awards – Boeing Company Multicultural Award These awards recognize Collegiate Sections that have developed and implemented the best multicultural program to increase and retain a diverse membership. A diverse membership is defined as inclusion of individuals who add variety to the demographics of the Section membership from its original makeup. Examples of demographic diversification include the increase and retention of: –People of color and various nationalities (cultural diversity) –Gay and lesbian members (diversity in sexual orientation) –A range of ages in the membership (age diversity) –Differently-abled members Selection Criteria 50% Diversity of Membership 25% Publicity of Diverse Programming 25% Community Outreach and Visibility Only Collegiate Sections are eligible for this award.

28 Outreach Section Awards Event/Series Award These awards recognize Collegiate Sections (large, medium, and small) and Professional Sections/MAL Regions/International Affiliates (large, medium, and small) that have an outstanding event/series program. The Event/Series Award is not limited to a one-time only activity. It may be a series of programs with the same theme. Submission of multiple entries for the event/series awards is encouraged. Submission of programs that can be used by other members (“Best Practices”) is also encouraged, thus the program does not need to be new. Selection Criteria 20% Quality of the Program 30% Relevance of the Program to the Mission and Goals of SWE 15% Effort Expended and Amount of Preparation for the Event by the Submitting Organization 25% Participation and Effectiveness of the Program 10% Communication of the Event

29 Outreach Section Awards MOU Partnership Award This award recognizes Collegiate Sections (large, medium, and small) and Professional Sections/MAL Regions/International Affiliates (large, medium, and small) that have had an outstanding program targeted for the outreach organizations that SWE has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with: FIRST, Girls Incorporated, and Girl Scouts of the USA. The Outreach MOU Partnership Award is not limited to a one-time only activity. It may be a series of programs with the same theme. Submission of programs that can be used by other members (“Best Practices”) is also encouraged, thus the program does not need to be new. Selection Criteria 20% Quality of the Program 30% Relevance of the Program to the Mission and Goals of SWE and MOU with FIRST, Girls Incorporated, or Girl Scouts 15% Effort Expended and Amount of Preparation for the Event by the Submitting Organization 25% Participation and Effectiveness of the Program 10% Communication of the Event

30 Outreach Section Awards Parent and Educator Program Award This award recognizes Collegiate Sections (large, medium, and small) and Professional Sections/MAL Regions/International Affiliates (large, medium, and small) that have an outstanding Outreach Parent and Educator program. This program should clearly demonstrate an event or activity, or series of events or activities, or component of an event, where engineering students and/or professionals raise awareness of adult influencers (parents, teachers, or counselors) on engineering career opportunities, importance of engineering as a profession, and the need for a technically literate population. Submission of programs that can be used by other members (“Best Practices”) is also encouraged, thus the program does not need to be new. Selection Criteria 20% Quality of the Program 30% Relevance of the Program to the Mission and Goals of SWE 15% Effort Expended and Amount of Preparation for the Event by the Submitting Organization 25% Participation and Effectiveness of the Program 10% Communication of the Event

31 Professional Development Section Awards This award recognizes Collegiate Sections (large, medium, and small) and Professional Sections/MAL Regions/International Affiliates (large, medium, and small) that have developed the best professional development program or event. A program can be a one-day seminar with a variety of workshops or a series comprised of at least two events that have a common theme; an event can be a single professional development or meeting or workshop. The events can be held on different days. This program must support the professional development goals of the Society. Only one package can be submitted for this award. Continuation of a program held over multiple years can be considered for this award. Repeat of a program held in prior years can be considered as well; however, please indicate any innovations done for the current program from the prior year. Selection Criteria 35% Program/Event Description and Purpose 25% Attainment of Society and Submitting Organization Goals 15% Effectiveness 15% Participation (Planning and Attendance) 10% Innovative/Expansion of Program
