2 Read! Read to children. Let them see you read. Model your thinking aloud.

3 Read with purpose! Begin a routine that is inherent in good readers What do good readers do before, during and after reading???

4 Reading Routine Post cards Read cards to class or child Begin with green cards for before reading questions. Proceed to yellow cards for during reading questions. End with red cards to wrap up with summarization questions.

5 Read Aloud Comprehension Cards

6 Pre-Reading-Narrative Read the story prior to sharing with the class. Read each question and model the procedure.

7 Pre-Reading-Narrative What does the title tell me about the story? What do the pictures tell me? What do I already know about ______?

8 Pre-Reading-Expository What does the title tell me about the story? What do the pictures tell me? What do I already know about the topic? What do I want to learn about….?

9 During the Reading Read the questions before the story and encourage students to listen for the answers as the story is being read.
