Exposition The main character of this book is Santiago he is introduced in the first chapter of the story. He a dream about a hidden treasure. The setting takes place in the nighttime by the abandoned church.

Rising action Santiago wants to go find the treasure he sells his sheep to go on a boat that is heading to Tangier, Africa. He works in a crystal glass shop to get money.

Climax  Santiago gets robbed and starts to feel bad. He feels lonely and starts to have a different perspective towards the land. He wants to leave but doesn't have enough money to leave.

Falling action Santiago get captured by the townspeople and he has to prove to them that he could transform into the wind. He talks to the wind and the wind helps him. The town goes black and then back to normal. When the townspeople look for Santiago they see him on the other side of the mountain. They are believed that Santiago possesses magical powers and they let him go.

 Santiago meets a boy similar to him. The boy was also looking for the treasure. In the other boys dream the treasure was in the old church where Santiago first started.
