Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement The pronoun must agree with its antecedent. A singular pronoun must replace a singular noun and a plural pronoun must replace a plural noun.
Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement Example: Plural- Harry and Josh went to the park to practice for their soccer game. Pronoun (their) is plural to match its antecedent (Harry and Josh).
Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement Example: Singular- Maria sent a letter to her cousin in Australia. Pronoun (her) is singular to match its antecedent (Maria).
Verb Tense Agreement The verb tense must stay consistent throughout the entire clause.
Verb Tense Agreement Example: Past tense- At school, Sam took a test and received a great grade. Both verbs (took and received) are in past tense.
Verb Tense Agreement Example: Present tense- At school, Sam takes a test and receives a great grade. Both verbs (takes and receives) are in present tense.
