Charter Member of The Automation Federation What’s in it for me... ….and the company I work for?

Charter Member of The Automation Federation Professional competence Professional competence Training and technical content Training and technical content Job enrichment Job enrichment How to apply the standards How to apply the standards Career advancement Career advancement Increased benefits Increased benefits Industry recognition Industry recognition Giving papers Giving papers Meeting and interacting with peers Meeting and interacting with peers The “WIIFM” - What’s in it for Me?

Charter Member of The Automation Federation Applying the right technology at the right time in the right place by the right people - at the right price and value Applying the right technology at the right time in the right place by the right people - at the right price and value Early adopters syndrome Early adopters syndrome Engineers usually understand and admire new technology They see the eventual benefits But promote the technology based on potential not current fact First producers add to the hype - but usually are not ready Hence new technologies are usually a disappointment to early adopters Better to wait until it is developed and can be a real benefit Better to wait until it is developed and can be a real benefit How do you choose the RIGHT time? How do you choose the RIGHT time? What’s in it for my Company?

Charter Member of The Automation Federation Timing and Understanding are Key! Timing and Understanding are Key! Decision and Timing has to be determined by technical and manufacturing management people within your organization Do they know enough? Have to understand not only the technology but the issues of practical implementation Who has tried it? What did it do for them? What were their problems? Did it help businesses similar to your own? Is it worth the effort? Who can you turn to for support? Which way has the best chance of providing significant benefits? What’s in it for my Company?

Charter Member of The Automation Federation Learning…. Learning…. cannot be done in a vacuum from literature helps - but is usually out of date and often not exactly what you wanted from suppliers may have a “slight” bias.. Learning….with value.. Learning….with value.. comes from interaction with peers other engineers and managers who have tried things People who have done something right People who have stumbled People who have benefits that exceed expectations People who are very disappointed People who are also trying to tune expectations to reality What’s in it for my Company?

Charter Member of The Automation Federation Active Collaborations Work Groups Make2Pack - WBF, OMAC, ISA B2MML - WBF, MESA, ISA BatchML - WBF, MESA, ISA Manufacturing Interoperability - WBF, OAGI, ISA, MIMOSA, OPC Other Collaborative Events MESA - conferences and webcasts CSIA - conferences ARC - conferences CONTROL - articles, web and conference support CONTROL - Automation Hall of Fame

Charter Member of The Automation Federation Working Groups Major contributions to the integration of manufacturing systems with business systems Promotes and teaches ISA-95 Enterprise Control System Integration Rapidly becoming the accepted approach to application of ISA-95 Now accepted by most major suppliers Provides a forum for the harmonization of models and concepts between OMAC PackML work and current work being done by the ISA's SP88 committee generally called Modular Concepts for Automated Control Systems Make2Pack BatchML & B2MML

Charter Member of The Automation Federation The Automation Federation Relationship Build on existing collaborations and synergies - with even greater collaboration and outreach through The Automation Federation More innovated conferences in Europe and North America, and exploration of new events in Asia, Latin America and other regions More training and information sharing opportunities New technology workgroups and educational opportunities Continued development and support of multiple B2MML schemas Ability to offer across the board technical programs in a “supplier neutral” environment
