Decisions Decisions Decisions

Good Morning! Attendance ?: Would you rather work really hard at an interesting job or slack off at a boring job? Please have your notes from The Stranger available. You may need an extra piece of paper for notes. Please get a copy of The Stranger. Please have a writing utensil available.

Part 2 Read Chapter 1 of Part 2 to yourself. Write a summary sentence for each page. When you have finished reading the chapter, write a paragraph to answer the following question: How and why is the statement on page 67, “In the silence that followed, the magistrate seemed to be getting fidgety.” and “That’s all for today Monsieur Antichrist.”, on page 71, connected? How do these statements demonstrate existentialism?

Connect to the Wifi Look up SparkNotes The Stranger. Read the summaries for chapters 2,3, and 4 for Part 2. If there are people without Wifi connection, work together to make sure everyone has a summary of each chapter. Read pages in Chapter 5 of Part 2. Why is Meursault so focused on execution? How are Meursault’s thoughts changing from the previous chapters?

SparkNotes In pairs, look at “Important Quotes Explained” Read the 5 th quote and explanation. Answer the following questions: How does/doesn’t the quote relate to existentialism? Compare/Contrast Meursault’s attitude from Part 1 and this quote? Compare Meursault to what you know about Sisyphus.

Meursault’s Decisions What kind of decisions did Meursault make? Why did he kill the Arab? Why did he go to his mother’s vigil? Why was he honest about not caring? What consequences came from those decisions and thought process? What would have happened if he had made different decisions? Write a “How it should have ended.” for The Stranger. He didn’t kill the Arab? He said that he loved his mother?
