7-3 Linear Equations and Graphs 9P2: Translate between tables, graphs and functions

Standard Form : ax + by = c Intercept method (Cover-Up method) is easy when functions are in standard form. x-intercepts – Point where y value is zero Ex: (9,0) (3,0) (-2,0) y intercepts – Point where x value is zero Ex: (0,6) (0,-3) Lines that cross at origin have same x-y intercept (0,0)

Graph by finding x and y intercepts 6x - 2y = -6 x intercept (,0) 6x = -6 x = -1 (-1,0) y-intercept (0, ) -2y = -6 y –terms cancels. Cover it up and write equation 6 x–terms cancels. Cover it up and write equation -2 y = 3 (0,3)

Graph by finding x and y intercepts -4x = 8y – 5 x-intercept: (, 0) -4x = -5 y-intercept: (0, ) 0 = 8y x = (, 0) +5 5 = 8y 8 = y ( 0, )
