Cosumnes River College Vision, Mission and Values Review

Purpose Cosumnes River College is entering into its 6 year planning cycle. The first step of the planning cycle is a review of the Vision, Mission and Value Statement.

Process  College Planning Committee  Campus survey to assess the degree to which the current mission statement met the criteria of an effective mission  The committee edited the statement in response to survey data  The updated statement was distributed for constituency review and comment in Spring 2016  The new statement was approved by the constituency groups and affirmed by the Participatory Governance Committee during April and May of 2016.

Proposed Mission Statement Cosumnes River College is a student-centered, open-access community college dedicated to preparing students for an ever changing future. CRC courses and programs empower our diverse students to earn certificates or degrees, transfer to other educational institutions, or attain other lifelong academic or career aspirations Mission Statement Cosumnes River College is an open access student-centered, comprehensive community college that prepares students to realize their educational and career aspirations through exemplary transfer, general, and career education in an academically rigorous and inclusive environment. CRC also offers exceptional instruction in basic skills and English for non-native speakers, as well as a broad array of life-long learning, community service, and workforce development programs.

Proposed Vision Statement To be an exemplary and innovative community college that empowers students and employees to strengthen the cultural, social, economic, and environmental well-being of their communities Vision Statement Cosumnes River College is an innovative educational and community center that prepares and empowers student to realize their unique potential to transform their lives and contribute to a just and democratic society as global citizens. CRC strengthens the cultural, social, and economic well-being of the region through the development of an educated and engaged citizenry whose decisions are informed by intellectual inquiry and scholarship, a pluralistic world view, and respect for humanity and the environment.

Proposed Values Statement Cosumnes River College’s culture builds upon a foundation of respect, compassion, civil discourse and shared decision-making. CRC deeply values academic integrity, cultural competence, equity, social justice, innovation and sustainability. CRC promotes teaching and learning excellence through diverse educational opportunities, varied instructional modes, and effective student services Values Statement As a community of scholars and practitioners with a deep commitment to equity and social justice, CRC values teaching and learning excellence and high academic standards sustained by academic integrity, fairness and mutual respect, and an ethic of care. The College’s core values of cultural competence and diversity, continuous learning and assessment, exceptional student services, and innovation are central to our collegial and environmentally responsible academic setting.
