WELCOME TO HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL -Orientation -

Class of 2020

Club Volleyball – Purpose Club Sports Opportunity to grow through INDIVIDUAL Investment How do get on the right team?

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

HS Volleyball – Purpose High School Sports Opportunity to grow through COMMUNITY Investment ◦ A COMMUNITY TEAM

Parents: How do I get my daughter more PT or on the J.V.? Here at South --- players earn their opportunities to play. That’s the game we play.

High School Sports – Blue Springs South What does it means to play High School Volleyball at Blue Springs South? You represent something larger than yourself

$ (HS vs. Club) We are who we are HS = Community Investment (Limited Options) Covered by district: Coaches salary, team travel, officials fees, uniform, practices, training, gym space. Some Parent Costs: Some equipment, sports physical, meals, admission at matches/tourneys, summer camps, etc. Booster Club: (Possible Fee or Fundraising) Team Fundraising: Sponsorship CLUB = Individual Investment (KC Metro Options) Cost covered by parents: coaches salary, team travel to matches/tournaments, uniforms, practice space, training, officials fees, most equipment, membership fees, meals, coaches membership/travel/meals. Sometimes fundraising.

do I play?

South VB – MAKE STATE You may feel your daughters best chances for college volleyball are to play a certain position. You may be correct but that is not our primary focus. Our objectives are found in our mission. Our goal regarding volleyball is to win a State Championship with the players that live in our community. Your daughter will be asked to do what the coach feels is best for the team, program & school. We assist in the college process but it’s not our main objective. Your daughter may be trained to play a position that they don’t always play in club. These decisions are made by the coaching staff and will be communicated with your daughter.

BSS – Volleyball Our main objective is not necessarily to get players to college. However, it is fortunate is that college coaches want athletes from successful HS programs. Overall, these athletes understand and have experienced loyalty, commitment, community and school pride. We can’t recruit players for positions of need. We must fill our needs with the talents of those who walk through our doors.

Let’s talk about South VB

Again………HS Volleyball High School Sports Opportunity through COMMUNITY Investment

Blue Springs South - Volleyball TEAM RULE “ Never put yourself, your team, or the program in an unfavorable position.” “DWR” (Do what’s right)

BSS – 5* Leadership School Missouri State High School Activities Association “Promotes the value of participation, sportsmanship, team play, and personal excellence to develop citizens who make positive contributions to their community and support the democratic principles of our state and nation.”

MSHSAA General Philosophy “Interscholastic activities are an integral part which complements the secondary curricular program. This program shall provide educational and social experiences for the students and school community which result in positive learner outcomes contributing to the development of good citizenship, sportsmanship & equitable competition.”

Blue Springs South - Volleyball The Mission of the Blue Springs South Volleyball program is to teach its members important life lessons through the discipline and rigors necessary of becoming a better volleyball player and teammate. We will be successful in our mission by providing them an organized, structured, and unique team experience, with each individual member molded to the goal of making the team as excellent as possible. *Code of Conduct* (MSHSAA/BSS) When not aligned with parents personal ethics – can cause issues for participation in South Volleyball.

Hard to fill a cup that’s already full Resume Coming In But here is what we’re looking for

Factors Considered for Team Selection Fall 2016 What’s BEST for the team? Who had a LARGE desire to win and to be great? Numbers on teams vary year to year according to: ◦ Attitude/Character & Being Coachable  IS YOUR CUP ALREADY FULL?? ◦ Work Ethic & Maturity ◦ Skills ◦ Ability/Athleticism Seniors Juniors Sophomores Freshmen

SOUTH – Volleyball Teams 2016 – Freshmen (2 Teams) 2017 – JV (2 Teams merge into 1 JV Team) 2018/2019 (JR/SR – Merge into 1 Varsity Squad) ◦*Occasionally FR/SO will also have roles on the Varsity As an athlete ages ◦ Participation/Recreation Competition/Commitment We encourage and support Freshmen athletes to participate in other school activities. The time to specialize is different for everyone. We acknowledge that most times this takes place in VB ---AFTER the freshmen year.

Problem Areas

Conflict (24-72 Rule)

SOUTH PLAYERS - PLAYING CLUB VB

Club VB & BSS VB 3 types: (Competitive, developmental, recreational). Club VB is not required to be a member of BSS HS VB. We do not endorse any one club over another. We do endorse the quality of a coach and development of skills vs. recreation. We do endorse a high level of competition and high frequency vs. recreation. QUALITY of play vs. quantity. (Burn out wins out over actually developing a higher level of play). JV/V Season Ends (1-2 Months Rest from VB Recommendation)
