Iraq Ethnic Groups: Kurds: Displaced there many years ago, this is where they reside. The northern part of Iraq is home to the Kurds. Moat of these are Sunni Muslim. Sunni: There is a cluster of Sunnis below the Kurdish population. They are the least portion of Muslims, and control the governing class of it. Shiite: Many Kurds may be Sunni, however in the region as a whole there is more Shiite. Half of the population in Iraq is Shiite. They are more southern because that’s where their cluster Is. WHERE AND WHY (Rubenstein, 2014)
The major conflict in this region is mainly thought to be religious because there are Sunni militants killing Shiites in Iraq, then handing out Qurans. But going back in time, it wasn’t always religion starting wars. ISIS proclaims they are fighting over “Allah”. Their rivalry has mainly been over deciding who should’ve been the successor to Mohammad. There has also been many political problems, it has just worsened due to religious disputing. (Maceda, 2014) MAJOR CAUSE OF CONFLICT
The US attacked Iraq in They killed the long time president Saddam Hussein. The Kurds welcomed the United States because it gave them more national security. The Muslims as a whole opposed the intervening of the US. Shiites had an extreme hostility towards the US, due to their neighboring country Iran. Sunnis feared the loss of power because Hussein was Sunni. (Rubenstein, 2014) OUTSIDE FORCES
Religion: Is the main conflict in Iraq, due to the two rivalry groups, Sunni and Shiite. They have opposing beliefs. (Rubenstein, 2014) Language: No language barrier, they mainly speak Iraqi Arabic. Kurds do speak Sorani, but isn’t a source of conflict.(Rubenstein, 2014) Political: They are struggling to develop a government, because they can’t find a solution for the reducing of marginalization. This could lead to the division of the country. (Almonitor, Harith, 2013) CULTURAL CONFLICT

One solution is to send Allied troops back into Iraq and try to stop the religious war. The forces would fight to protect the ones being harmed and stabilize extremists. Second Solution: Aid would be conditional, diplomacy is key. To pressure Maliki to step aside and bring about a much-needed leadership change. TWO SOLUTIONS
