WORKER EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM The mission of the NIEHS is to reduce the burden of human illness and disability by understanding how the environment influences the development and progression of human disease.

5 Worker Education & Training Program Created in 1986 by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA), Section 126(g). Provide awards to organizations to develop model worker safety and health training programs for workers engaged in activities related to hazardous waste removal or containment or chemical emergency response 18 non-profit organizations at 80 universities, labor- based safety programs and other institutions. Has trained over 2 million workers in high risk occupations such as toxic waste cleanup and chemical emergency response.

6 Hazardous waste (HWWTP) – model occupational safety and health training for hazardous waste removal, containment, and chemical emergency response (ER); DOE nuclear weapons cleanup training – training in environmental restoration, waste treatment and ER activities in the DOE’s nuclear weapons complex; Minority worker (MWTP) and Brownfields worker (BMWTP) – these programs focus on delivering comprehensive training to disadvantaged and underserved minorities for employment in the environmental restoration and hazardous materials fields and in Brownfields redevelopment; Hazmat disaster training (HDTP) - This new program enhances current hazardous materials workers and chemical responders, to train skilled response personnel, to create materials and deliver training to weapons of mass destruction response workers and to augment prevention and preparedness efforts in a wide variety of high risk settings. WORKER EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM Methamphetamine Awareness & Methamphetamine Technician Training Emergency Responders, Cleanup Workers and Health Departments are the key individuals who need this training OAI has addressed the ER’s in Methamphetamine Awareness, Methamphetamine Technician, and refresher courses through Kentucky State Police and the Midwest State Police Multi State training on 24-Hour Clandestine Methamphetamine Container Training and three 16-Hour Train the Trainer courses to State Police Officers in Indiana, Illinois and Oklahoma.
