MF OVERVIEW IMAGE 2

EXISTING CONDITIONS –Frequent stopping at bus stops and stop signs –Crowded buses –Buses weaving in and out of traffic –Delays due to left-turning vehicles 3

ORIGINAL PROPOSAL: CHESTNUT AM peak transit-only lane Average stop spacing from 1 to 2 blocks Stop optimization at four intersections Bulbs at a number of intersections Turn pockets at four intersections Traffic signals or traffic calming at eight intersections 4

OUTREACH Two MTA hosted open houses for Chestnut, two for Van Ness/North Point Presented at several community-initiated meetings 4,600 flyers distributed 6,500 postcards mailed Nearly 600 surveys completed Project website, alerts 5

WHAT WE HEARD Community concerned with: –AM peak transit-only lane/loss of parking –Traffic signals west of Fillmore –Loss of parking spaces Community supported: –Increase stop spacing –More capacity for 30X bus service 6

REVISED PROPOSAL: CHESTNUT Average stop spacing from 1 to 2 blocks Stop optimization at two intersections Bulbs at five intersections No left turn at one intersection Turn pockets at three intersections Traffic signals at three intersections 60’ buses on the 30X in Spring to reduce crowding 7

BENEFITS Up to 25% reduction in transit travel time and improvement in transit reliability 60’ buses on 30x means less crowded buses Increased pedestrian safety 8
