Unhealthy eating practices learned from programming/ads for unhealthy food, increased snacking behavior while viewing, and interference with normal sleep patterns are causing children to gain excess weight.
The food related TV ads are primarily for high calorie, low nutrient foods and drinks, and this sort of food marketing influences the child's food preferences and purchases requests.
Branded foods drinks and restaurants are often featured in TV show and movies, and this is also influencing a child's food consumption.
A television set in a child’s bedroom is also a large problem because it allows for loss of sleep at night, as well as allowing for fewer restrictions on what the child can view.
