 Do you keep a diary or journal? How often do you write? Do you use correct grammar? What topics do you discuss?  Do you have a pet? Describe it or an ideal pet.  Jack says “If that is a poem about the red wheel barrow and the white chickens, then anything can be a poem. It just has to have short lines.” Do you agree? Why or why not?  What does anonymous mean? Why didn’t Jack want his name on his poems? Have you ever wanted to share something anonymously?

 Describe Jack using colorful adjectives. How are you similar?  Choose a poem from the book. What do you think about it?  What do you think of Mrs. Stretchberry? Would you enjoy her class? Why?  Jack expresses himself through poetry. How do you express yourself without talking?

 How did you feel after reading My Sky on page 68? Explain.  The blue car was in many of Jack’s poems. What adjectives has Jack used to describe the car? Why is the car significant?  Jack was afraid that he used too many of Mr. Walter Dean Myers’ words in his poem. Do you agree with Jack or Mrs. Stretchberry? Why?  Choose one of Jack’s poems that inspires you. Rewrite the poem with your own voice and ideas.  How did Jack change as he wrote to Mrs. Stretchberry over the school year?
