2.The two patterns’ meanings are different. We use ‘of’ and ‘for’ in different sentences. If the adjective in the sentence is used to describe sb., we use the prep. ‘of’. If the adjective in the sentence is used to describe the infinitive ‘to do sth.’, we use the prep. ‘for’.

3. Tenses: 1).We use this pattern ‘It is adj.+ of sb.+ to do sth.’to describe how we feel about what someone does now. 2).We can also use ‘It was … of sb.….’ to describe how we feel about what someone did in the past. e.g. It was nice of Sandy to help me with my work. 3).The future form is: ‘It will be… of sb.….’(Be rarely used)

4.Sometimes we can use ‘That is’ and ‘How’ instead of ‘It is’, e.g. That is thoughtful of you to remember my birthday. How thoughtful of you to remember my birthday!

Pay attention to differences among : too…to; …enough to; so…that… and the exchanges.

too + adj. + to do sth. 1). “ 太 …… 而不能 ……”, 2). 否定意义 3). 形容词后面跟不定式. The boy is too young to join the army. adj. + enough to do sth. 1). “ 足够 …… 以致于能够 ……”, 2). 肯定意义 3). enough 在这作副词, 修饰形容词时要后置, 其后也跟不 定式.(enough 用作形容词修饰名词时, 前后置都可以. ) The boy is not old enough to join the army. so + adj.+ that -clause… 1). “ 如此 …… 以致于能够 ……” 2). 肯定意义 3). 形容词后面跟表示结果的状语从句. The boy is so young that he can’t join the army.

Notice 用 enough to 和 so…that 代替 too…to 时, 要用否定 句形式. 同时, enough 所在句中的形容词要用原句 中形容词的反义词. e.g. The room is too small to hold so many people. = The room is not big enough to hold so many people. = The room is so small that it can’t hold so many people.
