A LITTLE ABOUT JENNIFER SINGLETARY
A LITTLE ABOUT ME My name is Jennifer Singletary and I am from Atlanta, Georgia. I am a single mother with a four year old daughter named Sarah, she is my world. I am obtaining my master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Family and Community Services. I get joy out of being able to help others. I am also collectively with my parents raising my two nieces and one nephew from my older sister who passed away.
MY BACKGROUND My I have worked in the education field part-time since I was in high school. I have always had the desire to work with children. I have worked for a few daycare centers and a couple elementary schools. I have worked for the afterschool program at a local elementary school and that has truly brought me joy being able to become creative with the activities that I set up for the students. My personal interests are truly working with children and being able to support my family through everything. I truly enjoy making people smile and I like to always brighten up someone else’s day.
K-12 STUDENT As a k-12 student I would have to say that I enjoyed all of the experiences that I gained. I enjoyed how the education system was then and how all of my teachers in every grade were able to influence me to truly strive to be a teacher one day. The knowledge that was passed and taught in my opinion made a huge difference on how I felt about learning and what I was looking to receive. An experience that has had a lasting influence on my life was my fifth grade teacher Mrs. Gates. She truly believed in me and would go out of her way to ensure that I gained success. She did not hesitate building a relationship with my family and was not just there for me but for all of her students. I appreciated everything that she did and that is something that I am truly grateful for and also hope that I can do that for my students one day.
MY DEGREE My degree is master’s in Education (MAED). The type of position that I hope to have in the future of earning my advanced degree is to become a literacy coach. I think being a literacy coach will allow me to influence students in an area that they tend to struggle with. It will also allow me one on one time with some students outside of the classroom. The impact that I believe my master’s degree will have on my future endeavors is that I truly can do what ever I set my mind to do and being that positive role model that students will look up to. I am hoping it will help me put the desire back in learning and teaching for students and teachers.
INSPIRING QUOTE “When educating the minds of our youth, we must not forget to educate their hearts” ~Dalai Lama Love and care can truly go far with students and my fifth grade teacher was a good example of that.
