Straightforward Innovative Energy Savings
2011 Renovation In 2011 Harvard University completed a comprehensive interior renovation of the 105,000 square foot Sherman Fairchild building. The work took place over a two year period and created new laboratory space for the recently formed Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology (SCRB) department. The project included many energy savings designs and earned a LEED Platinum certification.
LEED-CI v3 Platinum The project achieved LEED-CI v3 Platinum certification in March 2012, and was tied with a project in Hong Kong for the highest number of LEED-CI points achieved by any project in the world. (and the highest for any LEED-CI lab).

FY14 Actual Energy Use
Innovative System Modifications 1.Reduce Lab Air Change Rates (ACH) 2.Heat Shift Chiller Adjustments 3.Supply Air Dew Point Reset 4.Static Pressure Resets 5.Room Temperature Set Points 6. Minimizing Equipment Runtime
Reduce Lab Air Change Rate (ACH)
Heat Shift Chiller A Chilled Water Savings of $35,000 (with no additional electrical costs)
Dew Point Reset A dew point reset schedule allows the discharge air set point to travel between 52.5 and 60 degrees
Static Pressure Reset Static reset at the EF’s is based on the MAX damper position of the exhaust boxes. Static reset at the AHU’s is based on the MAX damper position of the supply boxes.
