Memorization Guidelines Effective Communication

Memorizations Your task is to choose one of the selections provided, commit the entire piece to memory, and present it to the class. When you present: Stand at the front of the room with good posture with arms at your sides, behind your back or hands clasped in front. Introduce yourself and your memorization “Hi, my name is Christa Chirico, and I am going to recite “Eldorado” by Edgar Allan Poe.” Recite your poem from memory If you get stuck and need assistance to remember the next part, raise one hand and I will give you the next few words to guide you. After your poem, say “Thank you” and return to your seat. Audience members are expected to applaud each memorization.

How I Grade Voice = 30 points Enunciation – clearly saying all words Pronunciation – pronouncing all words correctly Speed – maintain a steady pace (don’t go too fast!) Vocal Variety – avoid being monotone, use a lively voice Volume – speak loudly enough that your audience can hear Demeanor = 10 points Appearance Eye contact Poise – don’t sway, twitch, touch hair, bounce knees, etc. Posture – stand up straight and tall Seriousness

How I Grade Delivery = 60 points Fillers – don’t say “um” or “uh” between your words Forgetfulness Pauses – small pauses for breath are okay, try to avoid long pauses for memory Stumbling Thoughtfulness Intro and conclusion 100 points total
