Pattern within the Culture of The Southwest of North America Pueblo Art

The Southwest area includes New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and South California

These areas are dry, desert environments

The first natives built their homes out of the sun- baked clay and straw - “adobe”. A collection of adobes was called a “pueblo” which is Spanish for town/village

The pueblos of the Southwest are the most permanent structures of the Native Americans

These desert dwellers became known as the Pueblo Indians

The Pueblo Indians were basket weavers, blanket makers, potters as well as farmers.
