UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING (UDL) AND DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION Priscillia Rivera EDU 673: Instruct. Strat. for Differentiated Teach & Learn Instructor: Susan Adragna April 21, 2015
UDL 1.Teachers must get to know their students in their class. 2.Instructions can be problem-based, cooperative learning or explicit instructions (National Center for Universal Design for Learning ) COMPARE AND CONTRAST Differentiation 1.Teachers must get to know their students in their class. 2.Instruction is presented based on learning styles, and students (Tomlinson, (2010).
3. Adjustment should be anticipated before the lesson is presented. 4. Student centered learning. 3. Adjustments are made based on assessments. 4. Student centered learning. COMPARE AND CONTRAST UDL Differentiation

Provide options for 1.Language mathematical expression, and symbols 2.Comprehension 3.Expression and Communication 4.Sustaining Effort and persistence 5.Self-Regulation (Puckett, 2013). STRATEGIES IN MY CLASSROOM Activities 1.Jigsaw Puzzles 2.Group Tournaments 3.Cooperative learning 4.Concept maps 5.Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom
DIFFERENTIATION AND UDL Differentiation and UDL can be blended into our classrooms by focusing on the need of each individual student. Planning ahead gives the teacher the opportunity to fix any adjustments that may be needed for each lesson being taught (Tomlinson, 2010).
DIFFERENTIATION AND UDL (CONT.) In my classroom active learning, student centered learning, and problem-based learning will be used to engage students according to their learning profile and multiple intelligence. With the knowledge I have about UDL and differentiated instructions can be achieved in my classroom.
