Statutory Regional Marine Planning in the Clyde

Clyde Marine Region

Clyde Marine Planning Partnership Based on Firth of Clyde Forum membership (delivered SSMEI plan) Unincorporated Association with a constitution To date adopted by many – British Marine Scotland, CalMac Ferries Ltd, Clydeplan, Field Studies Council Millport, Peel Ports Clydeport, Royal Yachting Association Scotland, Scottish Coastal Forum, SNH, South Ayrshire Council, The Crown Estate Commissioners, The Scottish Salmon Company, Visit Scotland. SEPA now confirmed. Pending decisions from – Argyll & Bute Council, Clyde Fishermen’s Association, Glasgow City Council, HMNB Clyde, LLTNPA, RSPB, Scottish Canals. Organisations and individuals can apply for membership

Direction from Scottish Ministers Give notice of intention to prepare the RMP to relevant parties (adjoining LAs, DoE NI) Draft Statement of Public Participation and publish (following approval by SMs) Prepare Assessment of the condition of the SMR and a summary of significant pressures and the impact of human activity on the SMR. Prepare (and amend) regional marine plan, include economic, social and ecosystem objectives and objectives relating to the mitigation of, and adaptation to, climate change Consider appointing an independent person to review Keep matters under review Monitor and report on implementation NB: Scottish Ministers decide to adopt and publish the RMP (guidance under development by Marine Scotland)

Clyde Marine Region - Assessment Similar structure to Scotland’s Marine Atlas Sections on – Physical and environmental characteristics – general overviews – Condition of the Region – ‘Physical’, ‘Clean and Safe’, Healthy and Biologically Diverse’ – Productive – sectoral economic trends, pressures and impacts Draws on monitoring work and reports undertaken by SEPA, SNH and Scottish/UK Governments plus as much local insight as possible. No new research but gaps will inform future research priorities. Peer reviewed.
