Order of Operations ~ Use Order of Operations

P.E.M.D.A.S. P = Parenthesis E = Exponents M = Multiply D = Divide A = Add S = Subtract

This is the order: 1. Parenthesis ~ do all operations in parentheses 2. Exponents ~ calculate all exponents 3. Multiply or divide, whichever comes first from left to right. 4. Add or subtract, whichever comes first from left to right.

Example x In PEMDAS, multiply (and divide) comes before adding and subtracting Now, we just have adding and subtracting, so go left to right Answer

Example (3 x 4) - 13 Parentheses first Now, since we have adding and subtracting, just go left to right Answer

Example (4 x 10) Do parentheses first! Now we’re down to adding and subtracting, so go left to right Answer Now, the exponent comes next (PEMDAS). Remember, 3 4 is 3 x 3 x 3 x 3.
