Yep! That’s Me! I have had a cell phone since 5 th Grade I just got a cell phone this year I wish I had a cell phone I have an IPAD or Kindle Fire I use Facebook I use Instagram I use Twitter I use another social media site I have been on Ask.FM, Quora or Yahoo Answers I know I am supposed to be 13 to use most all social media sites!

Did You Know? The average Instagram user spends 257 minutes accessing the site through their phone There are 575 likes and 81 comments by Instagram users every second 25% of Facebook users don’t use privacy controls 23% of Facebook users check their account more than 5 times a day

Social Media Lingo How many of these terms do you know? Catfishing Digital Citizenship Gaming Phishing Profile Sexting Tag Troll Think-Pair-Share Discuss with your elbow partner the terms you know, and the terms you are unaware of; for those terms try and guess what they are.

Social Media Lingo Catfishing — luring someone into on online relationship by means of creating a false profile Digital Citizenship — one who navigates the digital world safely, ethically, and responsibly Gaming — internet games, which can be played either individually, or by multiple online users at the same time Phishing — a scam that involves sending a fraudulent e- mail soliciting credit card, social security, or other personal information from an unsuspecting user

Social Media Lingo Profile—your internet identity or persona Sext or Sexting—sending sexually, and often illegal explicit, and inappropriate messages or photos by text messaging Tag or Tagging — a way of identifying an online article or picture. With pictures, it attaches to the picture names of people who are either in the photo or would be interested in viewing it Troll or Trolling — someone who makes a deliberately offensive or provocative with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them

Activity With a partner, and using the Social Media Checklist, review one of your social media profiles. (If you don’t have a social media account, use a celebrity account.) Evaluate two or three posts using the checklist. Discuss with your partner any items on the checklist that lead you to question any posts.

Setting Up Your Social Media Profile Guard Your Identifying Information (Name, Sex, Age, Address, School, Teams) User names should be generic and anonymous Consider carefully what pictures you are posting Use your privacy settings Consider carefully your friends and followers If you are unsure, DON’T!

What to Do Don't Reply: You should never reply to messages that harass or annoy you. The bully wants to know they have upset their target. If they get a response it feeds into the problem and makes things worse. Keep the Messages: By keeping nasty messages you will be able to produce a record of the bullying, the dates and the times. This will be useful for any subsequent school or legal investigation.

What to Do (cont.) Block the Sender: No one needs to put up with someone harassing them. Whether it’s phones or social networking, you can block contacts through service providers Report Problems: Reports any instances of cyberbullying to a trusted adult.
