What do you think?  A college admissions officer or a potential employer is googling the name of prospective candidates… What information would those candidates want to appear in a google search? What information would those candidates NOT want to appear in a google search? Do you think it is legal for a college admissions officer or employer to use a google search to help evaluate prospective candidates? If so, are there any limits to what information can be used? If you were a college admissions officer, why might you spend time googling information on a candidate if you already have a completed application?

College Admissions  Show the following clip to begin this section of the lesson   Read the article, “More College Officials Learn about Applicants from Facebook” and decide if the following statements are true or false according to what you read. 1) In the past year, there are not as many college admissions officials using Facebook to learn more about applicants. ○ False 2) The invasion of privacy has stopped officials from looking on Facebook. ○ False 3) 60% say what they found on Facebook negatively impacted the student’s admission chances. ○ True 4) Offenses sited were plagiarism, vulgarities and photos showing underage drinking. ○ True
