Overview Accomplishments in: Prevention Care and Support Tuberculosis Treatment Cross-Cutting

Prevention progress achieved through 2008 Community outreach to ~58.3m people to prevent sexual transmission using ABC USG supplied >2.2b condoms worldwide ( ) PMTCT services to ~16m pregnant women ~1.2m HIV+ women received ARV prophylaxis Averted ~240,000 infant infections

Care & Support progress achieved through 2008 >10.1m affected by HIV/AIDS received care Including >4m orphans and vulnerable children ~57m people received counseling and testing ~400,000 HIV+ received TB treatment

PEPFAR Care Results Note: Aggregate number of individuals receiving care and support in the focus and non-focus countries, or worldwide, is more than 10.1 million

Treatment progress achieved through 2008 >2.1m people worldwide received life- saving treatment Treatment support est. to save ~3.28m adult years of life Increased share of PEPFAR-supported treatment to children from 3% to 8% (between FY04 and FY08)

Partnerships for Sustainability progress achieved through 2008 In FY08, PEPFAR partnered with 2,667 organizations – 86% local partners – ~25% FBOs From FY04 to FY08, 3.7m training and retraining encounters for health care workers

Partnerships for Sustainability with the New Partners Initiative NPI created to: – expand number of PEPFAR partners – build capacity of organizations at community level – build local ownership of HIV/AIDS response ~50% of NPI grantees are FBOs and ~50% are local partners Nearly half of the grantees were sub- partners Three rounds led to 54 new prime partners (56 awards)
