Presentation transcript:

1 Ginger Butcher, Aura EPO lead Collaboration with the American Chemical Society Aura Mission April 1, 2013 Two articles in ACS ChemMatters publication on Air Quality & Stratospheric Ozone NSTA / ACS Webinar with Aura Scientist and EPO lead presented the chemistry behind tropospheric ozone & ozone depletion to 38 educators. Webinar promoted to ACS network and archived on NSTA web site seminars/ACS/webseminar.aspx seminars/ACS/webseminar.aspx ACS Podcast about how NASA studies atmospheric chemistry from space and how the instruments on Aura work and promoted through ChemMatters network. Reach: 70,000 high school chemistry teachers and 550 Chemistry clubs across the country

2 Ginger Butcher, Aura EPO lead Ozone Poster: 30 years of satellite observations Aura Mission April 3, 2013 Ozone Poster The poster highlights the October averages from with data from 5 missions. Back includes background on stratospheric ozone, chemistry, timeline of ozone depletion and color mapping activity. Color Mapping Lessons This high school lesson fills a gap in the benchmarks on NASA Wavelength. It explores use of color maps and how they can help visualize satellite data but can also interfere with interpreting data. English and Spanish versions passed the product review. 3 new products added to NASA Wavelength

3 Ginger Butcher, Aura EPO lead Debut of Color Mapping activity at Union Station Aura Mission April 6, 2013 Color Mapping Activity Students learned about NASA uses color maps to visualize data. They developed there own color scale and created a color map to illustrate how the colors represent data. Additionally, this activity explores how different color scales can enhance or impair the interpretation of data. This activity was adapted from the Color Mapping lesson on the Ozone Hole poster
