SCIENCE WITH MRS. WALL ESSENTIAL STANDARDS Understand how the cycling of matter (water and gases) in and out of the atmosphere relates to Earth’s atmosphere, weather and climate and the effects of the atmosphere on humans. Understand the processes, structures and functions of living organisms that enable them to survive, reproduce and carry out the basic functions of life. Understand the relationship of the mechanisms of cellular reproduction, patterns of inheritance and external factors to potential variation among offspring. Understand motion, the effects of forces on motion and the graphical representations of motion. Understand forms of energy, energy transfer and transformation and conservation in mechanical systems. WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE IN MY CLASS… Focus on 21 st Century skills, like: Critical thinking Looking at a problem and coming up with a solution Demonstrating knowledge Working collaboratively with others This means that students are working hands on to learn my curriculum. They are provided the resources they need to get the information. This does not mean I do not help students and answer questions. I show them where to look for the answers. Students work individually and in teams to learn. Students have to explain their answers and work. Students are reading, writing, collaborating, drawing, creating, and presenting in order to meet these goals. You’re also going to start seeing review homework, to keep the curriculum fresh in your student’s mind. 1 st 9 Weeks 2 nd 9 Weeks 3 rd 9 Weeks 4 th 9 Weeks

SCIENCE RESOURCES I update my school website daily. On it you will find: Homework Daily Presentation, Notes and Files The detailed 7 th Grade Science Curriculum Syllabus Resources When it’s assigned and when it’s due. Most of the things we do in class are uploaded to this tab, so if your student loses something or is absent, or you want to know what a particular assignment is, it can be found here. Everything your student needs to know can be found here. Classroom policies and procedures can be found here. If your student needs extra help or information, the resource tab has websites that can help.

Resources in Social Studies Quizlet: Study Island:

CCSS Focus: Themes & Central Ideas Citing Textual Evidence Interconnectedness of Ideas/Story Elements How authors develop and support ideas in a text Determining the meaning of unknown words in a text Writing for specific tasks, purposes, & audiences Comparing & contrasting texts Point of View Figurative Language Collaboration What This Looks Like in Class: Thematic units designed to help students learn and demonstrate knowledge and skills related to CCSS standards Performance tasks that press students toward deeper levels of understanding and integration of concepts Collaborative projects that develop speaking & listening skills and 21 st centurty teamwork values 3D Gamelab: Mastery-based learning - scaffolds instruction for students and helps them progress toward deeper levels of understanding Differentiation – students work at their own pace until they learn the skills they need to “move on” Study Island assignments that give students an opportunity to practice key Common Core concepts

3D Gamelab – Check your student’s progress regularly at portal.3dgamelab.org. A pacing guide can be found on my webpage to let you know where students need to be each week to be on pace for the 9 weeks grade they want.portal.3dgamelab.orgwebpage Study Island – Encourage students to work toward proficiency in class assignments on Study Island to prepare for their End of Grade Test in Reading.Study Island

Vocabulary – Students can work on building their vocabulary at and enjoy supporting a great cause in the process. Encourage students to make flash cards with the words they learn and try to have them incorporate the words into everyday conversations around the house. Independent Reading – Numerous studies have pointed to the positive correlation between time spent reading independently and performance on End of Grade Reading tests. Encourage your child to spend minutes each day reading books, graphic novels, articles, websites, or anything else they enjoy reading.

Log on to the 3D Gamelab site with your student’s “gamer tag” and password

Click on the student’s gamer tag to view their player card Here, you can view XP earned, recent activity, & quests completed/in progress.

Check your child’s progress against the pacing guide on the “3D Gamelab” page on my class website
