Patient safety culture: Study with mixed method on multidisciplinary team perceptions Elisiane Lorenzini MsN 1, Clarice Maria Dall`Agnol, PhD 1, Patricia Beryl Marck, PhD 2 1 School of Nursing, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. 2 School of Nursing, University of British Columbia – Okanagan Campus, Canada. Method Cross-sectional exploratory and descriptive design employing sequential mixed method, quantitative and qualitative in the perspective of ecological and restorative thinking, a form of systems thinking. Introduction The theme patient safety has been discussed all over the world after the report issue "To err is Human," by the Institute of Medicine, showed the number of deaths related to Adverse Events while providing aid in health services in US. Safety Attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ) has been used to access safety climate (safety culture) and determine the quality of treatment in health care organizations and the possible relationship between safety climate and care outcomes. However, the rates of safety climate are very variable and the field scale, Management Perception of the hospital and the unit, and the relationship between management with the results of patient safety has not yet been elucidated. Main Findings This study received ethics approval in early 2015 and data collection will commence in Spring of We expect the results to provide insights into aspects involving the management of the unit and the institution that impact patient safety. Objectives -Assess the perception of safety climate and management of multidisciplinary specialty team in Advanced Center of Neurology and Neurosurgery of the southern region of Brazil. -Learn about the ideas and experiences of these professionals, related to patient safety, from the perspective of the field of SAQ-Perception of unit management and of Advanced Center of Neurology and Neurosurgery. -Solicit the recommendations of the multidisciplinary team to improve patient safety, from the perspective of the field of SAQ- Perception of the unit management and of the Advanced Center of Neurology and Neurosurgery. -Solicit the recommendations of the multidisciplinary team to improve patient safety, in view of the complexity of the environment, where health care occurs in the Advanced Center of Neurology and Neurosurgery. Field It will be carried out in the Advanced Center of Neurology and Neurosurgery (ACNN) in Southern Brazil. The participants of the research will be all members of multidisciplinary team (33 expected), which work at the ACNN. This study is in line with the resolution of CONEP-CNS No. 466/2012 which focuses on the guidelines and regulatory norms for research involving humans. During the focus groups, I will use photos and stories from the walkabout data to elicit participants’ views on the SAQ results from the ACNN about the field: Perception of the Management Unit and of the Hospital. Processed and analyzed using the Statistical Package Second Step - B Qualitative Approach Focus group Photo walkabout (6 a 10 subjects) quan→QUAL First Step - A Quantitative Approach Safety Attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ) 33 subjects
