PTA Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a volunteer organization of Parents and Teachers who are committed to the goal of quality education and nurturing environment for every child. PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy group in the USA.

Why the Common Core Standards? The standards are the result of a national movement to provide an equitable, coherent, focused, and rigorous curriculum. The standards will enable our students to be college and career ready in order to compete globally.

Why Grades 1 and 2 in ? Maryland adopted the Common Core in 2011 and will begin assessing those standards during the school year. HCPSS started the transition last year with kindergarten. The transition continues this year in prekindergarten, first and second grades. Next year, the transition will occur in intermediate grades so that all students are prepared for new assessments the following year in

What is Co-Teaching? What is Co-Teaching? An approach to program delivery where two or more professionals within the same environment share the responsibilities of planning, instructing, and evaluating. (Ex. GT, Special Educators, Paraprofessionals, Reading/Math Support Teachers, ESOL, Speech Pathologist, etc.)

Homework Schedule and Policy Students have spelling and math homework Monday through Thursday. Spelling will not be given if there is only a three day week. If a student does not hand in their homework, they will receive a slip to be signed by the parent. They will need to return the slip and completed homework by the next day
