M. Battistin –17 th d June 2009 DC Project 2 WP3 – Evaporative alternatives Alexandre Moraux, Elena Perez, Michele Battistin, Jan Godlewski, Danilo Giugni, Konrad Gugla, Johan Bremer. Thermo-siphon Action list Weekly meeting in 298/1-003 on Thursday morning. First Workshop on thermo-siphon solutions at CERN 6 th July 09. Technical and economical definition of the low temperature chiller solution – Visit to first possible supplier on June 29 th. Provisional design of the first prototype – July 09. Installation of the transfer lines in the PX15 – August 09. Prototype assembly – Sept-Nov 09. Commissioning and test – Dec 09-March 10 Is there a need/possibility of a fast and intermediate prototype to be installed with recuperation material using an high of meters? Bdg 181 could be a good candidate.

M. Battistin –17 th d June 2009 DC Project 3 P&I of the installation -55 °C = 400 mbar -67 °C = 200 mbar -40 °C = 850 mbar -30 °C = 1300 mbar -25 °C = 1670 mbar Return DP = 80 mbar 2 kW 6 kW

M. Battistin –17 th d June 2009 DC Project 4 Pipe integration in the pit Pipe lengh: 180 m High about 80 m Liquid DN25 – gas DN50

M. Battistin –17 th d June 2009 DC Project 5 Alternative compressors Alternative oil free piston labyrinth or screw compressors: Market survey on oil free compressors – Jul-Sep 09. Technical and economical definition of the oil free compressor alternative solution – Dec 09. Potential tendering phase – Spring 2010 Visit to the first potential supplier on June 29 th. The oil compressor solution is less and less attractive as apparently no guarantee can be done to potential oil contamination of the circuit in case of failure. “Oil content on line measurement is difficult. The same measurement in the order of ppb is even more difficult.” Udo Wagner (TE/CRG)
