Chandauli District Population: 19 Lakhs Area: 2500 sq.km 139 villages 27 Gram Pachayats, 8 Nyaya panchayats 95 primary schools and 45 Junior high schools, 1 intermediate and 1 Degree college. Naugarh block’s literacy rate is one of the lowest amongst all blocks. VARUN runs centers where there is no other facility.

About VARUN Voluntary Association for Rural Upliftment & Networking (VARUN) is a self- motivated, social and non-profit organization. Varun started it activities in Outline: ▫ 15 centers in 9 villages since year Asha-SV started funding in ▫ 6 centers today: Shahpur (secondary), Dobahi,Badhanda, Jariyawan, Hadahi, Aurawatad. ▫ 10 educational centers converted to Govt. schools in the past. ▫ Self help group (women micro finance). - Introduce Organic Farming (Nursery, Seed Bank) ▫ Library (in 5 villages) ▫ Permanent structures in Shahpur, Dobahi and Lerha. ▫ All centers within 20km radius of Naugarh. ▫ Govt schools established in Amritpur, Horila, Lerha, Shahpur, Jharia and Pathraur. ▫ 126 VARUN children found jobs in various fields like education, police, etc. People: Dr.S.P.Singh (PhD, Agriculture), Mr. A.K.Singh (Journalist) and few teachers like Ramkrit, Bhuvan Kumar, etc.

Purpose And Goals 1.To increase the level of literacy and intellectual development of the children in the targeted area. 2.To give technical instruction to increase skill level 3.To provide technical tools so that the local population can join the main stream society

Students Primary level: 131 students ▫Boys: 78 ▫Girls: 53 Secondary level: 83 students ▫Boys: 43 ▫Girls: 30 About 90% of these students are enrolled under SC and remaining under BC.

FCRA update FCRA application re-submitted based on new requirements in month of May Re-applied in 1 st week of this month (Feb 2016) online by updating more information. There has been no update from Govt. probably because of volume of requests.

Women Federation Around 2000 women members of Women federation divided into clusters and groups. This year, few contested and won in Panchayat elections Every month there is a meeting to discuss about local issues as well as any personal issues. VARUN helps get employment to women from federation if at all there is any job vacancy in area. VARUN spread the awareness amongst people about elections. 68 qualified women got 95,200 through Govt. programs. Another 41,000 was procured.

Evaluation Criteria Self-sustenance of schools. Identify potential students for enrollment in each of the schools. Receive results of standard 4 examinations and identify number of students appearing in standard 5 examinations. Evaluate Shahpur, being primary center. Document reflections on VARUN’s learnings and experiences. Re-evaluate teacher training methodologies. Interaction with Alumni. Observations on centers converted into Govt. schools. Train women in stitching and thereby expand into other villages.
