MOAC Lesson 3

 From the HOME TAB you can change the capitalization of text using the change case icon in the font group.  Select the text, Home Tab, in the Font group, click the Change Case button. A menu of case options appears, as shown below.  Click UPPERCASE. All letters are capitalized.  With the text still selected, click the Change Case button again and select lowercase. © 2014, John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  You may also click the Change Case button again, and then click Capitalize Each Word.  Click the Change Case button again and choose UPPERCASE.  Click in a blank area of the document to deselect the text. © 2014, John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microsoft Official Academic Course, Microsoft Word

 Serif Font: Have extra lines on the tips of letters to improve readability  Example: Times New Roman, Courier New, Garamond Aa Bb Cc  Sans Serif Font: does not have the serifs on letters  Example: Arial, Tahoma, Verdana Aa Bb Cc

 Monospace Font: type of font in which each character takes up the same exact amount of space  M takes up the same amount of space as I  Example: Courier New  Proportional Font: type of font in which each character only takes up the space that is needed  Example: Times New Roman

 A new font command group that adds a distinctive appearance, such as outlines, shadows, glows or reflections, to selected text (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014)

 Should be used to make certain text stand out  Should not be used on large blocks of text (aka an entire paper)  Bold: makes the text appear darker  Italic: makes the text slant to the right  Underline: places a line beneath the text  Subscript: places text slightly below the baseline H 2 0  Superscript: places text slightly above the baseline 2 2  Strikethrough: places line through the middle of text  S MALL C APS : All text appears in uppercase, however if a letter was capitalized, it appears to be larger  Text Highlighter: similar to using a highlighter on paper

 Copies formatting, not text  If the icon is double clicked, it will allow the user to paste formatting to multiple non-adjacent items

 Character Styles: A style that is applied to individual characters or words that users have selected. (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014)  Paragraph Styles: A style in which the formats are applied instantly to all text in the paragraph where the insertion point is located, whether or not text is selected. (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014) Paragraph Style Character Style

 Decorative text that enhances text. (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014)  Use Insert Tab, Text Group
