Instructional Materials Evaluation Tool (IMET)  This ELA/Literacy IMET is designed to help educators determine whether or not instructional materials are aligned to the Shifts and major features of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The substantial instructional Shifts ( in-english-language-arts/) at the heart of the Common Core State Standards are:  Complexity: Regular practice with complex text and its academic language  Evidence: Reading, writing, and speaking grounded in evidence from text, both literary and informational  Knowledge: Building knowledge through content-rich non-fiction

Non-Negotiable 1:  Texts are worthy of student time and attention; they have the appropriate level of complexity for the grade, according to both quantitative and qualitative analyses of text complexity.

Non-Negotiable 2:  At least 80% of all questions in the submission are high-quality text-dependent and text-specific questions. The overwhelming majority of these questions are text-specific and draw student attention to the text.
