Romania – is the only Latin country in Central-Eastern Europe

Romania is located in South- East Central Europe, north of the Balkan Peninsula, on the Lower Danube, within and outside the Carpathian arch, bordering on the Black Sea.

County: Buzău Area: 81,3 km 2 Population(2002): 134,227 Buzău is the county seat of Buzău County, Romania, in the historical region of Wallachia. Buzău - Coat of arms

The first documentary attestation of Buzau is from 372, April 12, in a Papal Document. The town is an old settlement, dating from the Stone Age. The Monteoru Culture, from the Bronze Age, can be considered the development nucleus of this culture in the whole Europe. In Cârlomanesti – Niscov, they are discovered a former Dacian Fortress. The economical wealth of this region had determined the building, in the 4th century, of a Camp of the Eastern Roman Empire. Also due to the economical wealth Buzau became in 1500 the center of the Bishopric from this region. The Bishopric Center became a cultural center because of the printing house, singers’ school, icon painters’ school, seminars etc. Having a strategic position Buzau was also a defense center against the Turks, tartars and others. The fortresses from Bradu and Berca are proofs of the local resistance.
