The Big Interview Vickie Carter Edu 650 Dr. Wendy Ricci July 6, 2015

Vickie Carter B.A. Education, Minor Social Criminal Justice Position desired: Reading coach for elementary 13 years in the Special Education setting Experienced with IEP’s, lesson plans, lesson creativity, and reading resources Professional references and recommendations

Philosophy of Education Main Objectives: The ability to listen attentively with an understanding of the lesson Self-cultivation should be the main purpose of education. Understanding self- cultivation is the KEY relationship between teachers and their students (Burk, Adam). Classroom Environment: Warm and safe classroom, trust and effective learning, caring classroom Assessments: Can include a wide range of options; administering and observing the students with standardized test and instructional areas that need extra attention.

Classroom Management Plan Effective teachers classrooms are reliable sources. Students love an educational classroom, no disorganization or yelling. Effective teachers have lesson plans for the following school year. Introduce the classroom rules and expectations inside and outside of the classroom. The students should know this at the beginning of school. These are the rules and foundations of the class.

21 st Century Learning Multimedia Approach Innovation Skills Build Information Technology Skills

School Models I am not a teacher of records, just a teacher’s assistant, but my love for children has been an exciting and unexpected experience working in the special education field. According to Newman, “If we begin by taking some of the central underpinning of constructivism, the classroom is to be student-centered. Students should participate in the learning process and students learn best with authentic activities (Chapter 10, para. 4).”

Lesson Planning and Design Planning ahead to help students reach their goals. How their goals will be assessed Learning objectives which is a detailed description of a teacher’s course of instruction Objectives are critical to successful instruction. They help the teacher plan the instructional strategies and activities.

Backward Design Identify desired results Determine acceptable evidence Plan learning experiences and instruction “Backward design means a process that was designed to emphasizes the use of learning outcomes (Newman, 2013).”

Assessments Matter Formative and Summative Assessment Assessments can include a wide range of options from recording anecdotal notes while observing a student. Assessments should be used to modify and validate instruction. “Formative assessments are on-going assessments, reviews, and observations. It is used to educate students and teachers in the learning process. He or she can design a review activity or use a different instructional strategy (feit.ust.edu).” Summative assessments are used to evaluate the students’ overall achievement level in a detailed area; benchmarks, chapter tests, and standardized testing (Newman, 2013).

Professional Learning Communities “Developing professional learning communities are put together to give individuals, groups whole school communities, and school systems the power to get involved in and sustain learning over time (Stroll, Bolam, McMahon, Wallace, Thomas, 2006).”
