Our Comenius Partnership Home and Abroad in Europe

What is Comenius?  Comenius is part of the European Union’s Lifelong Learning Programme.  It aims at promoting mobility and strengthening the European Dimension in Education

 It seeks to develop Knowledge and understanding among young people of the diversity of European cultures and languages, and the value of this diversity.  This prepares its young learners for future employment and active European citizenship.

 You can find out more about Comenius and the Lifelong Learning Programmes on the above site.

Why get involved in a Comenius Project?  There are many benefits for every one involved in a Comenius School Partnership.  schools, their teachers and staff, and several million pupils throughout Europe can testify this.

What benefits?  More than 70% of the pupils boosted their social skills and their ability to work in teams.  Two thirds gained specialist knowledge and ICT competences.  They became more self- confident and motivated to learn.

What are Comenius School Partnerships ?  They promote European Cooperation between groups of pupils and teachers from different European countries.  They involve schools from the 27 member states of the EU,and of Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Turkey.

How did ours happen?  We attended a contact seminar in Austria,  We met many teachers from all over Europe  Some of them liked us,  And we liked them…  So we applied and

“Home and Abroad in Europe” was approved with our 3 partners:  A school from Germany  Another one from Portugal  And the third one from Poland

For how long will it last?  Each Comenius School Partnership Must extend to two years.  This enables the smooth running of the activities which may be incorporated in the school’s curriculum.

So what do we do?  Each Partner school produces a film with no text or sound.  The film’s theme will be based on its country or region.

What about text and sound ?  Each partner school will produce the music of one partner school’s film.  And each partner school will produce the text of one other partner school’s film.

So what is the English School’s task?  Produce a film on Cyprus( without the sound or the text)  Produce the music for Germany’s film(?).  Produce the text for Portugal’s film(?).

Don’t we know for sure?  Some things are to be finalised during the first partner schools meeting.

Meetings?  There will be four Partner School Meetings in the respective countries  Some pupils will need to travel abroad.  Some teachers too.

Is this why one joins Comenius Projects?- Opportunity to travel?  NO!  Comenius is not a travel Agency….

Why then join Home and Abroad in Europe?  So as to enhance my feeling of my European Identity  learn to deal with the element of the unknown  to promote Intercultural Learning at the school  enhance my creativity, my liking of quality music, my use of ICT in learning…

How many teams will be involved?  Five main teams of work with tasks:  The shooting and editing of our film  The work on the content of our film  The writing of the text of a partner’s film  The creation of the music for a partner’s film  communication with the partners

What will helping teams work on?  For now, they will help with the first Partners School Meeting.  It will take place HERE.  And it will be in the week of the 3 rd to the 8 th of November.  There will be workshops with the German visiting pupils and other common activities.

Will there be only German partner pupils?  Yes, just for this first stage of the Meetings.  More variety of pupil nationalities will be the case of future Meetings

What exactly will E/S pupils have to do in the 3 rd November week?  Some will host these German visiting pupils and act as mentors.  Some will work with the writing of a journal covering the 3rd Nov week’s activities.  Some will work on a workshop for the making of a poster within a poster competition for Home and Abroad In Europe.

There is more…  A music workshop  A team of pupils will advertise and promote money raising activities to be organised either at the school or outside the school.

And more…  A group of pupils will work together in order to establish a webpage for this week’s activities, to be advertised on the Internet.  Some pupils will join the dance club which is to teach local or modern dances to the visiting pupils.
