Special Dogs Highlight Unit 3

Police Dogs Police dogs are trained to help the police. Some dogs use their sense of smell to find bombs and drugs. Other dogs use their sense of smell and sight to find missing people.

Guide Dogs Guide dogs help the blind and people with sight problems. They lead them and avoid objects. Types of dogs used: Golden Retrievers, Labradors and German Shephards.

Hearing Dogs Hearing dogs are also called signal dogs. These dogs help the deaf and people with hearing problems. Hearing dogs touch their owners when there are alarm clocks, doorbells and friends calling their name.

Assistance Dogs Assistance dogs are given to people with physical problems. The dogs are trained to pick up objects, open and close doors, and operate light switches. Some big dogs even pull wheelchairs.
