BCMS Plan of Action READING: 1.Literacy Program through GRREC. 2.Focus on implementing inferencing skills in all classes. 3. Schedule Added more Title Reading Classes – Fundamentals of Reading. Extended Reading/Language Mechanics – Explore Reading/Language Mechanics used TCA program to target students for fall. EXPLORE test for spring. Study Skills – Explore Prep in First Semester. Then K-Prep rest of year. Targeted low students and Non-Duplicated Gap Group -schedule to place in extra classes. 4. Incorporation of reading strategies that center on annotation to raise reading comprehension. 5.Focus on pacing and timing in all formative and summative assessments. 6.Test-taking strategies recommended by ACT for multiple choice questions.

WRITING: 1. Focus on teaching students that argumentative writing requires counter-claims throughout the argument 2.Teach students to use a variety of techniques to develop ideas 3.Teach fictional and non-fictional narrative writing that centers on character change over time. 4.Extended Responses: Require 3.8 paragraph format to ensure idea development with textual evidence from the passage. 5.Scheduling- Explore idea of establishing writing class at middle school. 6.Focus on pacing and timing in all formative and summative assessments. 7.Integrate more writing into curriculum and the only way to do that is by breaking curriculum into narrative, informative, and argumentative reading and writing.

MATH 1.Literacy Program through GRREC. 2.Focus on implementing inferencing skills in all classes. 3. Schedule Title Math Classes – Additional Focus on inferencing skills. Extended Math/Science – Targeted students using Plan portion of TCA program to place students in class who need additional help for fall and Explore for spring. Extended Math – RTI class with focus on moby math and basic skills. Study Skills – Explore Prep in First Semester. Target students who are falling behind in regular class. Targeted low students and Non-Duplicated Gap Group - schedule to place in extra classes for spring. 4. Focus on word problems pulling information and setting up problems to work. 5. Implement pacing and timing on all assessments.

Social Studies: 1.Incorporation of and reflection on content literacy strategies through GRREC 2.Focus on implementing more reasoning and reflection skills in class. 3. Schedule – Explore schedule changes to allow better prep for 8 th graders on test Study Skills – 8 th grade focus on Economics and World History. 4. Adjust 8 th grade pacing guide to allow for review of key topics from 6 th & 7 th. 5. Integrate more geography into 7 th & 8 th grade classes. 6. Emphasis on grade level content vocabulary.

Science: 1.Incorporation of and reflection on content literacy strategies through GRREC 2.Implementing Inferencing Skills throughout the curriculum. 3.Schedule – Extended Math/Science – Targeted students using the TCA prep in fall and EXPLORE test in spring. Study Skills – 8 th grade focus on Economics and World History. 4. Implement more life science into 7 th grade curriculum.
