QC Tests at Keller North and South Frame assemblies will be fully QC’d (laser surveyed) to verify that they are in tolerance and identical to within manufacturing tolerance. One set will then we packaged and air freighted to RAL so that PRY frame fit-up/survey in hall can begin – Both North and South This should guarantee straightforward assembly of the South and North walls once the steel plate arrives The second set will be used to do a full assembly test at Keller of the South and North PRY walls once steel plate is ready. 8MICE Project Board and RLSR – November 24, 2014 Alan Bross

PRY Extension for Cooling Demo There are no engineering issues w/r to the mods needed for the PRY for cooling demo. Will use JFE-EFE steel and order as soon as possible after delivery of the 4” steel to Keller – Raw plate specification for extension underway now. Wall extension straightforward extrapolation from Step IV design Need for “Top-Hat” will depend on final vacuum design and performance for RF modules – Currently only have ~ 3X better vacuum inside cavity relative to outside (dirty volume). SCTS Testing: Status Major mechanical assembly completed in Lab-6 – several fixtures built and successfully used – cavity installed in vacuum vessel with new struts – couplers installed and adjusted on cavity Tuner system installation complete – tuner forks trimmed, installed, shimmed on cavity – actuators modified/reinstalled – transfer function measured Hall infrastructure prepared – new overhead crane installed for lifting vessel – vacuum system, air, water, RF plumbing installed Moved into MTA Hall May – baked and under vacuum (one actuator removed due to vacuum leak) – RF calibration performed, diagnostics connected Commissioning to baseline gradient (8 MV/m) completed in 3 days (Aug). NOTE: Zero Sparks! Maximum gradient reached: 14+ MV/m. Very-low radiation levels – Limited by available power. Ran for about 1 week at 14 MV/m Better than 1/10 5 breakdown rate at 12 MV/m 21MICE Project Board and RLSR – November 24, 2014 Alan Bross

SCTS Testing: Schedule Parts mostly in hand for next step at MTA – vacuum plumbing (operation in B-field) – inspection jig – Be windows – more instrumentation Expect 3-4 week shutdown – start when all parts are ready (2 nd week of December) – minimize exposure to avoid contamination Vessel to be open for only 4 days Current run to be concluded Thanksgiving week – Testing tuner system with RF (Running with 5. One removed due to vac leak) Run statistics – early Sept-now: uptime 56%, shift coverage 83% in the midst of many outages during Fermilab accelerator shutdown major shift help from UK collaborators – successfully demonstrated operation at baseline gradient with substantial overhead Next run period early 2015 – retrace B=0 operation with Be windows – full tuner system test with 6 units – operate in B>0 22MICE Project Board and RLSR – November 24, 2014 Alan Bross

Note on RF Tuners We did have some problems with the RF tuners. One developed a leak and we ran with 5. New design complete – Simpler, more robust & more compact. – Prototype to be made and tested – Then full production of 2 new full sets (12) plus spares 23MICE Project Board and RLSR – November 24, 2014 Alan Bross

Conclusions Spectrometer solenoids are complete and installed N & S PRY frames complete Critical delivery is PRY steel at Keller – Typhoon in Japan and 6’ snow in Buffalo has not helped PRY extension has no significant engineering issues RF modules will be almost identical to SCTS currently under test in MTA. Again, presents no significant engineering challenges – Assuming no unexpected results in B field tests Both are well ahead of the critical path at this point. 25MICE Project Board and RLSR – November 24, 2014 Alan Bross
