Parts of Classical Conditioning Unconditioned stimulus (US) a stimulus that unconditionally – naturally and automatically – triggers a response. Example: Food in mouth

Parts of Classical Conditioning Conditioned response (CR) the learned response to a previously neutral (but now conditioned) stimulus (CS). Example: Salivation when tone present
Pavlov’s Experiments
Pavlov’s Experiments Acquisition In CC: the initial stage, when one links a neutral stimulus and an unconditioned stimulus so that the neutral stimulus begins triggering the conditioned response. In OC: the strengthening of a reinforced response.
Pavlov’s Experiments Extinction and Spontaneous Recovery Extinction: The diminishing of a conditioned response; occurs in CC when an US does not follow a CS; occurs in OC when a response is no longer reinforced.

Operant conditioning: a type of learning in which behavior is strengthened if followed by a reinforcement or diminished if followed by a punishment. Operant behavior: behavior that operates on the environment, producing consequences
