The environment we live in has a variety of living and non-living things. All life depends on interactions between living and non-living things.
Ecosystems? Any place on Earth where living things interact with other living and non-living things is called an ecosystem. Ecosystems can be large For example; oceans or deserts OR Ecosystems can be small For example; Puddles or a rotting log

ECOSYSTEMS Can you list any living or non- living features in these pictures? How do these features interact?
ECOSYSTEMS An ecosystem is an interaction between living and non-living things. A rotting tree is an example of an ecosystem because all the living and non-living things in or around the tree are interacting. Each feature plays an important part.
PARTNER TALK With a partner discuss what an ecosystem in a forest would look like. Draw a diagram showing the interactions between living and non- living features in a forest. Explain to another partner the interactions in the forest
Earth contains many ecosystems. Each ecosystem contains a variety of different species.
Needs of Living Things 4 Basic Needs of All Living Things Air - is essential. When humans go to space or underwater there is no oxygen so oxygen tanks need to be used. Fish use their gills to take the oxygen out of the water so they can breath. Food – provides nutrients our bodies need to function. These nutrients give our body energy and help our bodies move, grow, and repair itself. If you ate 8 buckets of dirt everyday you would get all the required nutrients your body needs
Needs of Living Things Shelter – helps living things survive in a wide range of climates and conditions. Some bacteria live in hot springs where temperatures can reach 85°C. Other life forms live in the Antarctica where temperatures can get as low as -90°C Water – our bodies are 90% water. Without water living things die. Countries in the world do not have suitable drinking water.
Buried Alive How long can a human survive without being able to get their needs met?
Personal Response Could David Blaine have survived for a longer period of time? If so, would some needs become more important that others in the next few days? Why do you think that? How did Blaine meet his basic needs of Water? Food? Oxygen? Shelter? Write your response in full sentences on a separate piece of paper. Make sure you write the date and your name.
