What keeps us doing what we're doing?? There are two things that keep objects rotating and revolving in the universe...

1. GRAVITY GRAVITY PULLS EVERYTHING TOWARD EVERYTHING ELSE AND PREVENTS OBJECTS FROM FLYING OFF INTO SPACE (THIS KEEPS PLANETS, MOONS, STARS, ETC. IN THEIR ORBITS)

2. INERTIA SOME FORCE STARTED EVERYTHING INTO MOTION IN THE UNIVERSE. BECAUSE THERE IS NO FRICTION IN SPACE, NEWTON'S FIRST LAW IS IN EFFECT...AN OBJECT IN MOTION WILL STAY IN MOTION UNLESS ACTED ON BY AN OUTSIDE FORCE. SINCE THERE ARE NO OUTSIDE FORCES TO OPPOSE THE MOTION, EVERYTHING KEEPS ON MOVING!

OUR PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE THE MILKY WAY GALAXY

There are about 250 billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. The Milky Way Galaxy is 100,000 light years side to side. The diameter of the bulge in the center is 30,000 light years. The thickness of the disk at the earth is 700 light years.

SEASONS CAUSED BY THE TILT OF THE EARTH'S AXIS A PARTICULAR PLACE ON THE EARTH DOES NOT GET THE SAME AMOUNT OF SUNLIGHT AS IT ORBITS THE SUN. THIS CAUSES THE CHANGE IN SEASONS.

SOLSTICE WHEN THE SUN REACHES ITS HIGHEST DISTANCE NORTH OR SOUTH OF THE EQUATOR SUMMER SOLSTICE: JUNE 21 OR 22 (GREATEST AMOUNT OF SUNLIGHT) WINTER SOLSTICE: DECEMBER 21 OR 22 (LEAST AMOUNT OF SUNLIGHT)

EQUINOX WHEN THE SUN IS DIRECTLY ABOVE THE EQUATOR EQUAL HOURS OF NIGHT AND DAY SPRING EQUINOX: MARCH 21 OR 22 AUTUMNAL (FALL) EQUINOX: SEPTEMBER 21 OR 22
