Latin America Today: Mexico

Introduction Mexico is the third-largest country in Latin America, and the second in population. Mexico City is one of the most largest cities of the world. Many Mexican’s cities are organized around plazas. Mexico is a federal republic. Its president is Enrique Pena Nieto.

Mexican Culture The Mexican culture reveals both European and Native American influences. Mexican artists and writers have created many national treasures. Diego Rivera and his wife Frida Kahlo became well- known for their paintings. The Mexican people made a historic movie about Frida Kahlo ‘s life starring by Salma Hayek.

Economic Regions North South Central

The North It has large stretches of land that is too dry and rocky to farm. The cities in this area include Monterrey, Tijuana, and Ciudad Juarez. Maquiladoras are a source of job for many people in this area.

Central Mexico It holds more than half of Mexico’s people. Temperatures are mild, and the climate is pleasant year-round. Famous cities of this area: Mexico City and Guadalajara. People make cars, clothing, household items, and electronic goods. The major oil and gas deposits lie here.

South Mexico It’s the poorest economic region. Its land is poor for farming. Both coasts in this area have beautiful beaches and warm climate such as Acapulco and Cancun.
