The Advanced Placement Scholars Specialty Program (AP Scholars) is aligned with the Advanced Placement Program from The College Board. The program will provide students with instruction in pre-college and college level courses. Courses will provide students with a collegial learning environment and rigorous academic focus with emphasis on content knowledge, critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills, as well as disciplined study habits. Students will be prepared for success on AP exams. Special activities such as college nights, informational forums and content related activities will be offered. Students will complete a research project in the senior year in an area of academic concentration such as English, mathematics, science, or history and social sciences. Students will be required to submit an application. To participate in the program students must enroll in two or more pre-AP or AP courses each year. By graduation, students will also complete 60 hours of community service as well as two senior research projects. Limited express transportation is provided.

The Biotechnology Center is located at Osbourn Park High School. The program offers students a challenging and enriched science curriculum with a strong emphasis on biotechnology, medical sciences, and interrelationships among scientific disciplines. During freshman and sophomore years, Biotech Center students participate in integrated language arts and social studies courses that extend the program. The program stresses problem solving and hands-on learning as well as science literacy. Students also participate in community service and extracurricular science enrichment activities. To participate in this program, students must enroll each year in a designated Biotech Center science class and complete a sequence of Biotech Center courses from grades 9 to 12, including an independent research credit during the senior year.

Cambridge Programme offers an innovative international pre-university curriculum and examination system that can be tailored to students’ interests and abilities. Courses are based on an investigative approach to learning with students using initiative and creativity in solving problems. The external assessments by Cambridge International Examinations include written examinations, project work, and individual research. Juniors and seniors taking advanced level courses can qualify for an Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) diploma. To participate in the program, students must enroll each year in at least one Cambridge course and must complete a sequence of such classes in grades nine through twelve. The Center for Environmental and Natural Sciences (CENS) is located at Freedom High School. CENS offers a four-year program of studies designed to include strong laboratory and field investigation components. The curriculum is integrated with other educational disciplines to allow students to understand relationships between environmental science and these disciplines as well as to appreciate its relationship to everyday life. The program features interactive environmental projects that make use of the on-site greenhouse, aquarium, and wet pond. The emphasis is on awareness of our environment and the way ecosystems operate. The vision of the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts is to encourage and develop creativity, self-expression, academic achievement, and critical thinking in the young artist. Upon graduation, students will have mastered a common core of learning that supports the broader education of the artist. As a result of this training, the student will have the skills necessary to be successful in a university arts program and to become a valued participant in the larger arts community. The program offers opportunities to study in one of several concentration areas including creative writing, dance, instrumental music, vocal music, music technology, theater, and visual arts. To participate in the program, students must complete an audition and/or present a portfolio. Students accepted into the program must be enrolled in at least one class in the Fine and Performing Arts and must complete a sequence of classes from grades nine through twelve. The Center for Information Technology offers opportunities for students to study a wide range of information technology programs covering three main areas: mathematics and computer programming, graphics and multimedia, and hardware and networking. An extensive advanced placement (AP) program is available. Programs leading to professional and general certification are offered. These certificate programs include computer graphics, multimedia, computer repair, computer programming, and networking. Students need at least two years in upper level classes to prepare for the advanced graphics, network, and programming certifications. To participate in the program, students must be enrolled in at least one iT core class and must complete a sequence of iT classes in grades nine through twelve. All students in this program may choose from an extensive list of Advanced Placement core courses. Limited express transportation is provided.

The Center for International Studies and Languages (CISL) at Hylton High School offers students the opportunity to follow a comprehensive program of study with a focus on global awareness. The program advances understanding of global issues respective to cultures and languages, information and communication, and political, economic, and environmental systems. Additionally, field experiences such as student exchanges, Model United Nations, and travel support the curriculum. To participate in the CISL program, students must be enrolled in world language, English, and social studies classes designated as components of the CISL program. All CISL students take AP World History, AP Human Geography, and the capstone course, AP Comparative Government which includes a research paper component. They may also choose from an extensive listing of AP core courses and electives offered at Hylton. These courses are externally assessed by the College Board. The technology program at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is designed to develop in our students substantial experience and proficiency in laboratory based research, project planning, experimentation, problem solving, design, modeling, fabrication, testing, evaluation, documentation, and presentation related to engineering, scientific and other technical areas. The structure of the technology curriculum is different from Fairfax County and Virginia state technology curricula in order to support our unique student population. By initiating curriculum exploration and development in new high technology fields, and by integrating elements from science and computer science as well as from the technical curriculum, the technology program derives strength from its links with businesses, industry, scientific and academic institutions. Structurally, it is comprised of both a technology electives curriculum and a science and technology laboratory research program.

Stonewall Jackson High School and Gar-Field High School each offer a rigorous four-year academic program authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) of Geneva, Switzerland. This integrated and sequenced program begins with freshmen and sophomores in IBMYP classes offered in all academic areas. Junior and senior programs are externally moderated and assessed by the IBO. The full IB diploma program includes the unique characteristics of a 4,000-word extended essay, documentation of 150 hours of community involvement, and a seminar course entitled “Theory of Knowledge.” To participate in the program, students must enroll in a sequence of IB classes in at least one core or elective area from grades 9 through 12.International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO)
