Context Clues

Objective Today we will identify context clues to determine the meaning of an unknown word.

Concept Development  Context clues are clues in the text that help you to figure out the meaning of an unknown word.  Sometimes there are words surrounding the unknown word that give you hints as to it’s meaning.

Importance Context clues help you to figure out the meaning of words without using a dictionary. Using context clues helps you to practice inference.

Skill Development Steps: Read the text. Look for clues surrounding the unknown word. Infer the meaning of the word as best as you can. 1.Think of possible synonyms.
