Presentation transcript:

What is the man holding in his right hand? Where do you think he is going?

When do you think this photograph was taken? Why do you think the people are so dressed up?

Make a hypothesis. At what do you think all these people are looking?

What event is this? At what type of place would you expect to see this type of activity today?

What kind of place is this? What is shown in this picture to support your answer ?

This is what the photograph shows: It is a view of a ride called the Chutes (or the Big Splash) at "White City" (later called Lakeside Amusement Park), Lakeside, Colorado, near Denver in about There is a large crowd of people gathered and watching the water ride. We see the edge of a Ferris wheel, other rides, a penny arcade, a large line by the ticket gazebo, and wooden frame residences behind boundary of the amusement park.

Clearly, people have enjoyed going to amusement parks for many years. Think about a place that you have enjoyed going to. You will write a four to five paragraph essay about your trip. You will describe where you went and why you had fun there.
