Copyright, 2003 © Black Adoption Placement and Research Center The Seeds of an Idea: PIP Identifying “hard-to-place” children Providing the private agencies access to waiting children Targeted recruitment efforts – presenting children based on strengths Building community alliances for support and resource sharing Setting realistic goals Making minority and older children a priority

Copyright, 2003 © Black Adoption Placement and Research Center What is Collaboration? A “mutually beneficial and well defined relationship entered into by two or more organizations to achieve common goals that could not be accomplished by any single entity.” The key point is that in order for collaborative programs to work, there must be a benefit to all agencies, and the relationships must be well defined.

Copyright, 2003 © Black Adoption Placement and Research Center Why Collaborate? Ensure permanency for children Minimal placement and social worker changes Recruitment efforts that yield a pool of viable families Supportive services for foster families at the same level as adoptive families Meets needs of diverse groups Uniform training of adoptive and foster families Standardized criteria for child’s entry into fost-adopt status Provide adequate financial support and services for fost-adopt families Strengthen and empower families Promote positive attitudes toward adoption
