Helping people to get online at Wealden  Who needs help?  Why aren’t people online?  Why are we trying to help?  What are we doing?  How can you help?

 Nationally 17 % of people don’t use the internet  13% not connected in Wealden  Nationally higher proportion of social tenants  44% of WDC tenants not online  Rural population 80% nationally have broadband compared to 98% urban population  Other factors….age…income….social grade Who isn’t online?

Motivation Trust Skills Access Why aren’t people online?

 Financial benefits £560 per year  Health benefits  Education/work prospects 3-10% more pay!  Access to mainstream services i.e. benefits, gov.uk  More convenient 24 hour access to services/information Why are we trying to help?

How are we trying to help?  Skills –training providers/digital buddy schemes/Street Learning programme  Motivation – Promotion of case studies  Access – low cost hardware/free wifi points  Raising awareness, promotion, promotion, promotion

 Raise awareness of the benefits of being online  Consider providing more wifi points  Promote training availability – get involved with running/participating in events/distributing leaflets  Promote cheap broadband/hardware options  We’ll be helping you do all of the above in partnership with other organisations in a targeted manner How can you help?
